How a chamber in Bangladesh writes a prescription

· Sudiptta Apu

The prescription you write by hand can be written on one page and printed on your pad. If the patient has left, you hand them the file.

The paper you already use

A chamber morning in Bangladesh still starts with a name. The patient sits down, you ask what brought them, and you reach for the pad that already has your letterhead. softhubd does not ask you to throw that paper away. You upload the PDF or the photo of the pad you already write on, move the blank edge in millimetres, and the new lines land on that page. The size can be A4, A5, or the pad itself. The logo stays where the printer already put it. You are not asked to learn a new letterhead before the first patient of the day.

That matters more than it sounds. Doctors do not change pads because a website told them to. The receptionist knows the paper. The patient recognises it. The pharmacy at the corner has been reading that layout for years. The job of the software is to put your writing on that familiar page, cleanly, and to keep a copy you can open next week when the same person comes back with the same cough or a new one.

What you do, and what the page does

After you log in you are on the writing page. There is no tour of menus between the patient and the medicine. You type the name, age, sex, weight, and date. Sex can be male, female, or third gender. If a junior has already taken the history, that note can be waiting when you sit down. You add the complaint, the history, what you found, the diagnosis, the tests, and the advice. Then you search the medicine and set the dose.

The page does not invent the prescription. Lines you have typed before come back when you open the field. Two letters are often enough to see a match. Nothing sits on the pad until you click. That is the whole rule. A suggestion is a memory of your own wording. It is not a second doctor in the room, and it is not allowed to finish the page while you are still talking to the patient.

Lines you repeat every day

Most chambers have a handful of sentences that show up all week. Fever for three days. Pain in the right side. Take the medicine after food. Come back if the fever does not settle. The first time, you type the sentence yourself. The next morning it is in the list. You click it when it is the right sentence for this person, and you ignore it when it is not. A template can be saved, opened, or deleted when a season changes and the usual advice no longer fits.

Bangla and English both work. Pick the language the chamber actually uses and the writing follows that direction. Doses can be written in Bangla even when the medicine name is the brand on the box: morning, noon, and night, every few hours, several times a day, or drops per minute into a vein. If you type the dose in Banglish, it becomes Bangla as you go. You do not have to keep a second notebook for the words you always say.

The medicine row, and the price that stays in search

The catalogue has about 72,000 rows of medicines and supplies. You can search by the brand, the group, the company, or the supply itself. The row shows the group, the company, and the price so you can tell two similar names apart before you click. A syrup and a drop with the same brand are not the same thing, and the price is often the fastest way to see which bottle you meant. That price is for you. It stays off the printed page unless that chamber has turned the price on. The default is off.

If a name is not in the list, type it onto the pad. It is kept, and the next search can find it. A fever of 100 or above mentions a search for Paracetamol. It does not add the medicine. You still click, and you still set the dose. The software is not deciding the treatment. It is only pointing at a name doctors in this country already reach for when the temperature is high, and then it waits.

When the patient has already left

Some people cannot wait for the print. The child is crying, the rickshaw is outside, or the visit ran long and the next patient is in the chair. You make a JPG or a PDF of the same page you would have printed. On a phone the share sheet lets you drop that file into WhatsApp. On a computer the file downloads, and you attach it to the chat or to an email. softhubd does not send the message. It does not log into WhatsApp. You choose the chat, and you send it.

The mobile number on the visit is for finding the person later. It is not printed on the page the patient holds. If you need the number, it is on the screen in front of you, not on the paper that will be photographed and forwarded through a family group.

More than one room

A lot of doctors sit in two places. Morning at a clinic, evening at the chamber, sometimes a third day at a hospital outdoor. Each place has its own pad. You pick the chamber and that pad opens, with its own margins and its own print rules. The morning paper does not pick up the evening letterhead. A monthly pack is for one doctor. Basic opens 2 chambers, Standard opens 5, and Premium opens 10. The doctor is recognised when the name and the degree match closely enough. Buying the software once is a different arrangement: up to 5 doctors and 10 chambers, and the price is something you ask on the demo rather than a number invented on this page.

The count at the end of the day is simple. Today, this week, this month, this year, on Dhaka time. New patients and people who came back are separate. You can see which medicine, which company, and which test you wrote most. It is a chamber total, not a hospital accounts department.

What you should not expect

This is the writing of a prescription, the pad, the search, the file, and the count. It does not send SMS. It does not listen to your voice and write the page for you. It does not put a queue on a television in the waiting room. It does not keep working if the internet is gone. It does not check one drug against another, and it does not fill in ICD codes. Serial numbers, fees, and an automatic bKash or Nagad checkout are not part of this. You pay by scanning, and the licence turns on after that payment is seen. An unverified transaction number does not switch the software on by itself.

If a page on the internet promised all of those things in one breath, it was describing a different product, or it was describing a wish. softhubd is narrower on purpose. The visit should finish on one page, on the paper you already trust.

A look before you pay

You can try it free. Two prescriptions can be written at no cost, and a live demo print is there so you can see the page yourself. The button opens that demo in a new tab. It is the real writing screen, not a slideshow of features. Write a name, add a medicine, and print. If the pad, the dose line, and the file are what your chamber needs, the prices are on the site: ৳1,000, ৳2,000, or ৳3,000 a month, depending on how many prescriptions and chambers you want. What you do not use stays for the next month. Five hundred bought and two hundred used leaves three hundred.

The signature, the seal, and the phone in your hand

The footer is where the page starts to look like yours. A signature and a seal can be a PNG or a JPEG. If the seal was drawn on a clear background, it stays clear. You can drag it on the preview until it sits where your hand usually signs, or you can type the place in millimetres and stop guessing. The same page works on a phone. The buttons are the same, the search is the same, and the print is still one page. A chamber that runs from a handset in the evening does not need a second product.

Saving is what makes the next visit shorter. The save gives the visit an ID, something like 0042, and that number can sit on the date line of the pad. Later you find the person by name, by mobile, or by that ID. You can copy the last prescription into a new visit, keep a draft, or mark it final. The copy is a starting point. You still change the dose if the child is better, or add a test if they are not.

Who sits in the chair

The writing page does not change because the specialty does. Medicine, surgery, a child chamber, gynae, eye, ENT, skin, heart, kidney, psychiatry, bone — complaints, history, diagnosis, tests, advice, and medicines are still the lines you type. Supplies are in the same search. A nebulizer, a mask, a pregnancy test, gloves, a cervical collar: if the name is there, it comes up with the medicines. If it is not, you type it on and it is kept for the next time you need it. The examples are examples. The catalogue is not a list of four specialties.

One doctor in Bagerhat already uses it. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, a child specialist at Sufia Memorial Maa-Shishu and General Hospital on P C College Road, is happy with the software and tells other doctors about softhubd. That is one chamber, not a crowd of invented reviews.

Does the software write the prescription for me?

No. You write it. Older lines come back as suggestions, and they sit on the pad only when you click.

Can I keep the pad I already print?

Yes. Upload that PDF or photo, then set the blank edge in millimetres so the writing misses the logo.

Will the medicine price show on the patient’s page?

Not by default. You see the price in search so you pick the right row. The print leaves it off unless that chamber turns it on.

What if the patient cannot wait?

Make a JPG or PDF and attach it yourself on WhatsApp or email. The software does not send the chat.
